D'ALBERT, EUGEN (p/comp/arr) Born Glasgow 10th April 1864. Concert pianist, composer & arranger, studying under Franz Liszt. Emigrated, aged 12 (1876). Aged 17, he performed his own piano concerto in London, appointed conductor at Wiemar (1895), became director of the Hochschule fur Musik in Berlin (1907) but failed to fulfill the early promise. Composed 21 operas, 7 orchestral works, 5 chamber works, 5 works of vocal music and 58 lieder for voice & piano. Disliked his UK roots and became a Swiss citizen (1914). Died in Riga (1932).
